Lead Data Scientist, Applied Machine Learning

Are you looking for an opportunity to analyze petabytes of data in a world-class Hadoop cluster and generate insights to help consumers achieve their health ambitions, whether its running the Inca Trail Marathon or playing tackle football with their grandchildren? the Member Analytics team is focused on delivering strategically impactful programs and tools to help members across all life stages feel the joy of achieving their best health in their own way.

This position lies within the the launch of the  is an app developed by the firm in collaboration with Apple that leverages the Apple Watch sensor data and  medical claims data in order to create personalized health recommendations for our members. The collaboration relies on a powerful rewards mechanism to incentivize our members to stay active and complete key healthy actions like getting a flu shot and adhering to medications.

Some of what you'll do:

  • Building the next generation of machine learning-based personalization tools (e.g. recommenders) to power the first-of-a-kind experience
  • Analyzing correlations between the Apple Watch sensor data and the Aetna claims data to understand member health and wellness
  • Using sensor and claims data to potentially detect various diseases and conditions and infer health status of our members
  • Presenting insights and predictive model efficacy to senior leadership

What you need to succeed:

  • 7+ years of experience as a data scientist in a big data environment (knowledge of Hadoop and/or Hive a plus)
  • Proficiency in data science techniques including machine learning, statistical modeling, experimentation, and visualization
  • Expertise in SQL and Python/R (knowledge of Spark a plus)
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well with people from various disciplines (Product, Marketing, Finance, etc.)
  • Experience in project planning and serving as a technical lead for a team of 2-4 data scientists
