The Role: 

Our Client is creating an entirely new category of software-as-a-service for consumer brands -- the Customer Growth Platform. The Director of Data Engineering will lead the technical vision, strategy, planning, and design of this first-of-its-kind platform through the development of data pipelines and a machine learning platform. This platform will fuel automated digital engagement and personalized loyalty programs to transform customer experiences while delivering predictable and repeatable lifetime value growth.

What You’ll Do:

  • Recruit, hire, manage, and lead a world class engineering team
  • Provide technical leadership to the engineering team on key data initiatives for the company. This includes all aspects of product delivery including architecture, data ingestion, pipeline development, data infrastructure, ETL, and machine learning support
  • Participate in strategic data initiatives and provide guidance for the short-term and long-term goals of the team
  • Ensure data quality and compliance with development, architecture, reporting, and regulatory standards throughout entire data pipeline
  • Develop and continually refine data engineering best practices, guidelines, procedures, and repeatable and scalable frameworks
  • Work closely with our Data Science team to ensure the data platform supports their initiatives now and in the future

About You:

  • Experience building and developing strong engineering practices and engineering teams
  • Passion for operational excellence, problem solving, and ownership in accomplishing challenging goals.
  • Security and data protection mindset using encryption (in motion and at rest), privileges, access, authorization, masking, and retention
  • Strong leadership, communication skills with demonstrated technical and analytical skills
  • Strong project management and tracking competency that ensure scope is completed on time and within budget
  • Experience architecting data flows from web services and developing APIs for internal and external consumers
  • Experience leveraging AWS data platform services like Kinesis, SageMaker, Glue, and Athena 

Bonus Points:

  • Demonstrated experience with Enterprise Data Lakes, Reference / Master Data Management, Data Warehouses
  • Hands-on experience with knowledge of at least one big data programming language (e.g. Scala, Python)
  • Experience developing a team and product in a startup environment
