Senior Director - Security and Emergency Management

A premier laboratory for particle physics and accelerator research has been at the forefront of discovery science experiments, both in the U.S. and globally, for over 40 years. Supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, the lab works to answer fundamental questions and understand all aspects of the universe. The laboratory, which is managed by an alliance of 11 research universities and universities, is home to roughly 1,820 employees from all parts of the world. Employees of this lab construct world-leading accelerators and detectors to conduct some of the most advanced particle physics experiments, and analyze the data from those experiments using powerful computers. This research is done on a large piece of land, designated as a National Environmental Research Park.

A highly qualified and experienced Senior Director of Security and Emergency Management is sought to join a team at a National Accelerator Laboratory. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the Laboratory, its employees, and its assets including overseeing a cybersecurity program and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information assets. You will:

  • Develop and implement security policies and procedures to protect the Laboratory and its assets, including classified information, data, and intellectual property in alignment with regulations for federal property.
  • Direct and manage all aspects of the security program, including site access security, information and cyber security, personnel security, and emergency management.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with government agencies and law enforcement organizations.
  • Develop and implement cybersecurity strategies and policies, assess and mitigate cybersecurity risks, and manage incident response and recovery efforts.
  • Conduct site security and cybersecurity assessments, audits, and investigations to identify vulnerabilities and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement site access and cybersecurity awareness and training programs for all employees and contractors.
  • Manage security operations, including site security team, cybersecurity professionals, contractors, and equipment.
  • Develop and manage the security budget and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, standards, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on security matters.
  • Stay up to date on emerging cybersecurity threats and trends.
  • Educate the organization on cybersecurity best practices.
  • Serve as a member of the Laboratory's senior management team, providing advice and counsel on security matters.

We are looking for:

  • Ideal candidate would have: DOE and Government experience, military, and other civilian agencies, understand the guard force, manage ID systems, review security plans, understand the chain of command.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in security management, preferably in a high-security environment, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of site security and cybersecurity principles, practices, technologies, risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Experience managing a security program that includes physical, cyber, and personnel security.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement security policies and procedures.
  • Experience working with government agencies and law enforcement organizations.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, collaboration and leadership skills.
  • Experience managing incident response and recovery efforts
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the highest level.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CRISC
  • Bachelor's degree in security management, business administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
