The Role:

Our client are looking for Staff Backend Engineers to join a dynamic and brilliant Engineering team. This person will help build and scale its core services and public APIs, define how their many partners integrate with systems, and manage and evolve our existing software systems.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter, detail and quality oriented, as well as passionate about having a huge impact


  • Design, implement, deploy, and operate core services

  • Hands-on coding

  • Ensure that everything you write is well tested and automated so that we can continuously release our changes

  • Help define our architecture ensuring scalability and reliability

  • Help define our API design and best practices

  • Participate in planning and retrospectives

  • Collaborate with Product Management and Engineering colleagues on technical vision and design

  • Mentor junior engineers


  • 5+ years of experience building backend systems

  • Experienced with (or the desire to learn) Java and Ruby

  • Experience building robust APIs for third parties

  • Believes that any code without tests is technical debt

  • Have strong opinions on API design and best practices

  • You have worked with distributed systems in the past

  • You play well with others

Bonus Points:

  • The API services you have developed have been publicly available and used by people outside your organization

  • Experience developing code in a regulated environment (HIPAA, PCI, etc)

  • Worked with dynamic languages in the past (Ruby, Python, etc)

  • Startup savvy

  • You have a passion for what you do and don't mind showing it off
