Job Description

An early stage New York-based Artifical Intelligence and Robotics company who are well backed are looking for a VP of Software Engineering to be part of their Founding team.

The team has a track record of building category-defining and market-winning products and brands. These including the founders of one of the world's most innovative companies in consumer electronics, as well as makers of interactive apps that have been downloaded more than 200 million times in 215 countries.

As the VP of Engineering, you will be part of the company's core leadership and you will play a pivotal role in shaping our future and obsessively build the present.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Building lead and inspire a world-class software engineering team
  • Designing  and development of the software stack at the core  system
  • Designing and creation of software that enables the introduction of a revolutionary human-robot interface
  • Driving software architecture vision, roadmap and decision making
  • Managing and ensuring the technology platforms are consistent with industry and data compliance standards, including COPPA compliance
  • Mentoring the software engineering team and nurture their skillset and capabilities


SKILLS

  • At least 10+ years experience in engineering with 5+ as a manager/director
  • At least 5+ years experience as a senior engineer or architect
  • Experience managing engineering teams of at least 20 engineers
  • An effective communicator with superb project management skills
  • Ideal applicants will have experience and proven track record in AI and machine learning, specifically deep learning, multimodal learning, and reinforcement learning with applications to robotics.
  • Ability to shape and leading software architecture decisions
  • Experience collaborating with hardware organizations as a huge plus
  • You're a leader that people love working with and for


NICE TO HAVE SKILLS

  • Experience developing complex statistical ML methods for computer vision, robotic systems and/or user modeling
  • Experience developing ML and DL solutions using tools such as TensorFlow, Caffe, Keras, Torch or equivalent
  • End-to-end experience designing, implementing and validating ML methods for robot learning and/or user modeling i.e. creating a training dataset, creating and training the algorithm, improving efficiency, implementing on the final robot hardware or user-facing application
  • A well-rounded roboticist comfortable and enthusiastic to work primarily in ML but also on related robotics challenges as needed
  • Familiarity with common vision system software frameworks (e.g., OpenCV, OpenNI, PCL)
  • Solid understanding of the field of ML, especially deep learning and reinforcement learning
  • Solid hands-on experience applying ML to human-machine interaction data
  • Experience in work that includes natural language processing and/or understanding
  • Experience delivering production software for robotic systems, especially mass-market consumer items
  • Experience in the field of social robotics, building autonomous interactive systems
  • Experience implementing robotic control systems that leverage learning from demonstration methods
  • Experience implementing ML models on resource constrained hardware (such as embedded systems, raspberry pi, etc.)
  • Experience balancing cloud-based and local services as needed
