Our client, a Y Combinator backed AI company building agentic systems for the insurance industry, is looking for a Founding Software Engineer in New York.Revenue has grown 25x in 10 months since YC, they are backed by top investors, and their autonomous voice and worker agents are already in production replacing thousands of manual tasks a day for some of the world's largest carriers. This role owns the foundation every agent and product is built on. Salary is $150,000 to $200,000 with 0.5% to 1% equity.Role & Responsibilities:- Own the agent execution platform, the core harness covering turn handling, tool orchestration and session lifecycle- Own provider routing, multi provider failover, cost optimisation and latency aware model selection- Build the eval platform that catches regressions before customers do, including per run evals, canary deployments and automated regression detection- Own the developer platform, covering coding agent workflows, internal tooling and CI/CD- Take pain points surfaced by forward deployed engineers and spec, build, review and ship inside the same week- Shape platform and product direction as a founding engineerSkills & Experience:- 4+ years building production software, with strong TypeScript and SQL- Experience building reliability infrastructure including retries, circuit breakers, graceful degradation and observability- Background in regulated or security sensitive environments where every action needs an audit trail- Comfortable designing systems, writing technical specs and orchestrating AI agents to execute- High agency and full ownership, operating as a driver rather than a contributor- Based in NYC or willing to relocate
